Week 4
Moving on from last weeks animation chronologically. Again I took the keyframes from the animatic and neatened them up, I also went in and added some character movement, to help give the movement of the animation better flow. Upon review of the initial test, I think that some of the protagonist's movement defies gravity, as she is moving a little too slow in the air to still be moving upwards. There was also a keyframe that makes her appear to begin to do a spin, which is not the case and looks somewhat jarring.
To combat this, I removed the offending frame and added additional frames at the beginning and end to make her movements flow better, and make it less choppy. Additional frames were also given to the antagonist character to make the camera movements smoother.
Additional working progress shots and the final character animation., I made that the blast of energy that comes from the protagonist affected the clothing and hair of the antagonist character by giving them a fluttering effect. This will hopefully ground the animation and give a sense of "Believe-ability" to the far-fetched nature of the animation.
I am happy with the outcome of this clip. However, I feel that the real challenge will lie when shading, lighting effects and the backgrounds are composited in!
Moving on I went and animated a more static part of the animation due to time constraints this week. The main goal of this part of the animation was to give the character an easy to read expression, and also to have the folds of the clothing move as realistically as possible.
WIP 1
Another goal of this part of the animation was to give a sense of shock and surprise, to really tell the audience how the character is feeling. I feel that the close-ups of the limbs springing into action, with the sharp cut to the reaction shot help with conveying this well.
WIP 2
I believe that the goals which were set out during the making of this part of the animation were successful. If additional time was allowed, I could perhaps go even further into getting the flow the clothing even better. I think that the addition of shading will help further the sense of shock that the clip is trying to portray, as harsh lighting will add to the expression written on my characters face.
Below is just a concept test of the current clips that I had so far completed. It gave me a good idea of how the animation will look when completed. It will hopefully also give my peers a good sense of the progress I have made, for the loose gifs may not accurately convey that.
