Week 5

Image
I wanted to continue with character expressions this week, so I continued with parts from the beginning of the animation. As usual, most of the frames were already produced from the animatic. It just became a case of cleaning up the lineart, adding a few in between and then colour! While working on this, I didn't really like the flow on the antagonist's clothes, it felt somewhat clumsy, and it all moved at the same time, giving it a somewhat artificial look, which I wanted to avoid as best as I could. After some deliberation, I decided to cut this part of the animation for the time being, and redo it from scratch at a later date.  To aid with the in-between of this animation, I filmed my own hand performing the same motion, and used that as a reference, so that the animation would feel as smooth and realistic as possible. Using reference and even filming yourself is something used incredibly regularly in the industry so it would be foolish not to employ this to...

Week 4

Moving on from last weeks animation chronologically. Again I took the keyframes from the animatic and neatened them up, I also went in and added some character movement, to help give the movement of the animation better flow. Upon review of the initial test, I think that some of the protagonist's movement defies gravity, as she is moving a little too slow in the air to still be moving upwards. There was also a keyframe that makes her appear to begin to do a spin, which is not the case and looks somewhat jarring.  To combat this, I removed the offending frame and added additional frames at the beginning and end to make her movements flow better, and make it less choppy. Additional frames were also given to the antagonist character to make the camera movements smoother.  Additional working progress shots and the final character animation., I made that the blast of energy that comes from the protagonist affected the clothing and hair of the antagonist character b...

Week 3: Character Animation

Breakdown of Work-space: I thought that it would be a good idea to explain my workflow and the program that I am using for those unfamiliar with the program, below is a series of annotated screenshots that label how I created the animation. The layout of the program is in a way a merge of both Photoshop and Toon Boom, two programs that I often use. In addition, the programs allow for files to be saved in both PSD, Toonboom and CSP files, allowing for cross-platform work. I wanted to begin my animation with some of the harder animation sequences. I began with the roll sequence. Starting with the Key frames produced in semester 1, I used these as a basis for the animation and drew the in-between's at 12 fps. The roll in total took around 19 frames to complete.  To help me be accurate in the in betweens, I utilised the programs Onion Layer tool. Most industry tools have this function, so I made sure to utilise it to my advantage when creating all of this animati...
